Steve is the chairperson of the Banking and Finance practice area and is a member of the firm’s executive committee. Steve also established our New York office and spends a substantial amount of his time in New York actively involved in our New York real estate finance practice. He focuses on the representation of lenders in real estate finance transactions and the resolution of problem loans, and developers in commercial real estate transactions. Steve regularly handles a broad range of lending transactions for institutional clients, working directly on all aspects of the transaction or playing a key role in supervising other attorneys in this practice. He also has substantial experience in the representation of financial institutions in loan workouts and restructurings, acquired through over three decades of handling such matters, including as lead workout counsel for numerous matters in the late 1980's and early 1990's, as well as a renewed active practice in light of current real estate market conditions. Much of his work centers on the representation of the agent in multi-lender real estate finance, real-estate portfolio finance, and mezzanine finance transactions on a national, local, and regional level. This has proven to be particularly valuable as the market begins to grapple with the impact of multiple lenders and multiple tiers of financing in workout transactions.

Steve has participated as a speaker and moderator at seminars sponsored by the Real Estate Finance Association, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, Information Management Network, and the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. He serves in many capacities for Temple Aliyah in Needham, Massachusetts, including chairperson of the building committee responsible for the construction of the Temple’s new facility. He also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hebrew Senior Life, and is on the subcommittee for the development of a new 160 acre campus. Steve is a member of the Board of Advocates of Bay Cove Human Services and plays an active role with United Way, where he has been a committee member for many years for the annual Real Estate Leadership Breakfast.
